Francis X. Faria, Sr. of Mansfield died peacefully at Sturdy Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.
Husband of Laura (Palladino) Faria for almost 70 years until her death on March 1, 2018. Born in East Mansfield on May 12, 1927 to John E. Faria and Mary (McHugh) Faria and attended Mansfield Public Schools. He was pre-deceased by his parents, wife and his son-in-law John Dei in addition to his brothers John, Joseph, Arthur Faria and sisters Mary Faria and Catherine Rothwell.
A lifelong resident of Mansfield, he enjoyed playing softball in his younger years and fishing on Cape Cod and in his later years Francis became an avid golfer as a member of the Thursday night golf league at Willowdale Golf Course. He was a diehard Boston Red Sox fan and loved the Boston College Eagles. Francis was active in the Mansfield community as a Little League umpire, a founding member of Mansfield Pop Warner football and a main supporter of the Mansfield High School football program, Boy Scout leader, CCD teacher at St. Mary’s Church and was past Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus.
Francis and his brothers formed Faria Bros., Inc. and built many homes in Mansfield and surrounding towns, including his own home. As a skilled carpenter he took pride in building each of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren a cherished piece of furniture. Later he was employed by St. Mary’s Church as head of buildings and grounds and meticulously tended St. Mary’s Cemetery for many years.
Francis leaves behind his children and their spouses: Francis X. Jr. and his wife Linda of Plainville, Ralph of Taunton, Maureen Dei of Mansfield, Thomas and his wife Debra of Mansfield and Peggy and her husband Brian Eagan of Vermont.
Francis was the loving Grampa of Jim and John Faria, Amy (Faria) Smith and Joe Faria, Jason, Ben and Nick Dei, Andrew and Robert Faria and Katy (Faria) Shanahan, Laura (Eagan) Tomaino, Conley Eagan and Hayley (Eagan) McVeigh along with 23 great-grandchildren. He also had numerous loving nieces and nephews.
His seat at the kitchen table will be forever empty.
Francis’ family would like to express their gratitude to the caring and compassionate doctors and nurses at Sturdy Memorial Hospital and the staff of Doolittle Home in Foxboro.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Monday, August 21st from 9:00-10:30 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Street, Mansfield.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 21st at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
