Obituary

CHICOPEE – Marjorie A. (Bozek) Sabat, 82, of Chicopee and a longtime resident of Westfield, was Called Safely Home on Monday, August 14, 2023. She passed into Eternal Life at the Pioneer Valley Health and Rehabilitation in South Hadley surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her dedicated caregivers whom she loved so dearly. She was born in Holyoke on January 3, 1941, a beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Emma (Tiber) Bozek. She was raised in the Willimansett section of Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School, Class of 1958 and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Westfield State College in 1962. She moved to Westfield in 1963 where she raised her family, returned to Chicopee in 1986, moved back to Westfield for many years, and returned to Chicopee in 2008 where she lived the remainder of her life. She began her working career as a telephone operator for the New England Telephone Company on Worthington Street in Springfield, and later worked for over 20 years in the Marketing Department for AT&T in Farmington, CT and on Caldwell Drive in Springfield. She retired in 2011 from the Admissions Department at American International College in Springfield where she enjoyed being with her “adopted kids.” She was a communicant for many years at Saint Anne Church in Chicopee where she served her parish as a lector, CCD instructor, member of the Saint Anne Sodality, and the Prayer Shawl Group. She loved spending time with her friends at the Fairview Knights of Columbus Council 4044, where she was also a Bingo and Spaghetti Supper volunteer. She crocheted, knitted and sewed for family and friends, and donated countless afghans, mittens, scarves and hats to various organizations. Most of all, she cherished her time spent with her children, grandchildren, and her many friends. She leaves her four loving children, Laura-Lee Martin and her husband, John, of Brattleboro, VT, Sharon K. Kaseman and her husband, Jason, of Hickson, ND, Tina M. Sabat of Brattleboro, VT, and Matthew D. Sabat and his wife, Cathy, of Chicopee; her ten cherished grandchildren, Jenna Winget and her husband, Gordon, Bethany Martin, Matthew Kaseman, Sarah Andersen and her husband, Justin, Hannah, Emma, and Gabriel Paige, and triplets Julia, Matthew Jr., and Corinne Sabat; her beautiful great granddaughter, Annabelle Rae; her longtime friends who were truly family to her, John and Geri Spear of Springfield and their children; her goddaughter, Priya Mora and her husband, Adrian, of Trinidad; several devoted friends including, Joy Melanson of Henderson, NV, and Doris Theroux of Holyoke, and extended family members. She was predeceased by her cherished grandson, Zachary Paige who was Called Home on July 14, 2007; her former husband, Walter Sabat who was Called Home on May 11, 2005; and her dear friend and companion, Matthew Blaney who was Called Home on October 2, 2013. Her Funeral will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke Road, Westfield, MA 01085. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, August 18, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
