Carolyn Collier Mooney, 90, passed away in Ojai, California, on August 10, 2023. The daughter of Charles A. Collier and Gertrude C. Roe was born in North Olmsted, Ohio, on April 14, 1933, and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan in 1955. She married Raymond R. Dykes on November 19, 1955. While stationed in Okinawa, they had two daughters. A third daughter was born in San Diego.
Carolyn devoted her professional life to education. She was a third- and fourth-grade teacher in the Santa Ana Unified School District for more than 25 years. She attained her Master’s degree from Cal State Fullerton in 1981. Upon retirement, she continued working with children at the Blind Children’s Learning Center (now called Beyond Blindness) in Santa Ana. Carolyn loved to garden, dance, travel, and spend time with family.
Carolyn is survived by her brother, Charles A Collier Jr. and his wife Linda Collier of Pasadena, California; daughters Deborah Misiag of Virginia, Karen Case of Arizona, and Susan Campbell-Phaneuf of Ojai; grandchildren Ryan Misiag, Jaclyn Misiag, and Lindsay Campbell; and great-grandchildren Hailey and Doug. She is preceded in death by her brother Don Collier. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the loving staff and caregivers at The Artesian of Ojai.
Family and friends are invited to funeral services to be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 24, 2023 in the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street, Ventura. Interment will then immediately follow at Santa Barbara Cemetery, 901 Channel Dr, Santa Barbara.
