BETHEL- Rodney Carroll Dyer Sr., 89, of Bethel, was called to eternal rest on August 13, 2023, at Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn. Rodney was born on March 6, 1934, in Monroe, Maine. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Rodney was in the Army from 1956-1959 while at the same time building a home for his family in Lyman. Rodney worked several jobs, including at the Leather Mill in Waterboro, and he had his own well drilling business. He also had an oil burner business which included repairing and cleaning furnaces; he was a truck driver for Worthmore Feeds and he worked for several years at Fiber Materials, Inc. in Biddeford. He was a driver for David Heald and also worked at High Watch.
Rodney cherished his family above all else. He is survived by his son Rodney Dyer, Jr. and his wife Jodie, his son Alan Dyer and his wife Debbie, his daughter Jane Havu and her husband Alfred Jr., his daughter Julie Dyer and her fiancé Dionisio Tavares, his daughter Elissa Walton and her husband Matt, and two sisters Muriel Welch and Brenda Charland. Rodney was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Rena (Knight) and Kenneth Dyer, his sister Priscilla Kastle and his brother Kenneth Dyer, Jr. Their memories will forever be cherished by those who loved them.
Rodney was involved in 4-H as a leader for many years, and he was a 7th Degree member of the Grange; he was also a longtime member of the National Rifle Association. In 1998 he was drawn for the Maine moose hunt with his friend John Romprey; that was a highlight of his life. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and was a Mason. He loved home canning and tending his home gardens. He was a lifetime member of the Ossipee Valley Fair. When he retired, he moved to Upton where he enjoyed spending time at Mills Market with his buddies. His final home was in Bethel.
In accordance with Rodney's wishes, there will be no services held. His family and friends will gather privately to celebrate his life and share cherished memories.
Rodney will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul find eternal peace and may his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his loss. Thank you to all that helped make his last years with us enjoyable and memorable.
