Dennis Joseph Shanahan, of Franklin, Massachusetts, formerly of Roslindale and Medford, passed away at the age of 79 on Friday, August 11, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Joanne (Silvestri) Shanahan, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.
Born in Malden MA, on March 29, 1944, to parents Edward and Loretta (Grimes) Shanahan, he was a Franklin resident since 1998 although he lived much of his adult life in Roslindale. He was a devoted father to his two children Denise Auchterlonie and Edward Shanahan (Denise Marie) and he was the proud and loving Papa to his four grandchildren, Taylor, Jake, Thomas and Christopher all of Franklin. Dennis was brother-in-law to Mike and Geraldine DiPhilippo also of Franklin.
He was preceded in death by his brother Kevin Shanahan.
Dennis joined the National Guard in 1964 and was a graduate of Northeastern University. He spent most of his professional life Managing Purchasing Departments at various hospitals including Brigham & Women’s, Newton Wellesley and Milford Regional. He was heavily involved in CYO, coaching youth sports and most of all spending time with his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Friday August 18th, at 9AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage St. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Church Square, Franklin at 10AM
Interment, with military honors, will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury.
