John J. “Jack” McLaughlin, 89, of Medford, passed away on August 13th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Jack was a lifelong Medford resident. He was a retired Medford Police Officer, serving 37 years patrolling the streets. Jack was also a proud Marine serving in the 1st Marine Division during the Korean Conflict. Jack graduated from Western New England College earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He was also a Life Member of VFW Post 1012 in Medford.
Jack was the son of the late Patrick and Margaret (McDonough) McLaughlin of Medford. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia (O’Brien) McLaughlin. The most loved and respected father of Barbara Merrill and her husband Michael of Medford, Janet Bonitatibus and her husband Bob of Reading, John McLaughlin and his wife Janice of Medford and the late Kathleen McLaughlin. He was the cherished grandfather of Meagan Rooney and her husband Kurt, Maura Dowler and her husband DJ, Michael Merrill, Rob Bonitatibus, Katelyn Bonitatibus and Jenna McLaughlin. Jack was the cherished great grandfather of Emily and Conor Rooney and Colton Dowler. He was the brother of Mary Clougher and her late husband John, Bill McLaughlin and his wife Margaret, Barbara McGonagle and her husband Frank, the late Charlie McLaughlin and his surviving wife Jane, the late Bernie and Rose Marie McLaughlin and the late Bob and Marion McLaughlin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
We lost a great father who left an imprint on the lives of those who knew him for his generosity, wisdom and overall kindness. Our hearts are broken, we are so proud of you dad. You were the captain of our ship, our beacon of Hope.

Relatives & friends are invited to attend his funeral from the Breslin Funeral Home 610 Pleasant St., Malden on Wednesday August 16th at 8:30 AM followed by his Funeral Mass celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden at 10 AM. Services will conclude with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Visitation will be held at the funeral home prior to the Mass on Wednesday only. In lieu of flowers, Jack’s family has requested that you carry out a random act of kindness in his memory.
