CHICOPEE – Fred P. James, 79, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, August 13, 2023. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts of January 13, 1944, a beloved son of the late Fred P. and Freda M. (Bonacorsi) James. He was raised in Springfield, graduated from the High School of Commerce in Springfield and had moved to Chicopee in 1969 where he lived the remainder of his life. He served his country in the United States Navy and attained the rank of Seaman Recuit. He was employed as a Machinist at the former Tell Tool and later worked at the Westfield Tool and Die Company in Westfield. During his leisure time, he enjoyed shooting, traveling abroad, whale watching and spending time at his time share in Aruba. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Alma M. (Bourgeois) James who was Called Home on February 19, 2016. They were married on June 3, 1967 at the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 48 years of happiness together. He leaves his two loving children, Mary Lou James-Getz DVM of Fort Mill, SC and Christopher M. James and his wife, Maryann, of West Sand Lake, NY; his two cherished grandsons, Ryan J. Getz and Michael J. Getz; his dear sister, Rhonda James; his dear brother, Ronald Aboud and his wife, Rose; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family members. His Funeral will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial with United States Navy Military Honors will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends on Thursday, August 17, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home prior to his Mass. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
