CHICOPEE – Germain Donald “JB” Benoit, 89, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, August 11, 2023. He passed into Eternal Life at Missioncare at Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving partner, Vivian. He was born in Belandville, Florida on April 16, 1934, a beloved son of the late Joseph J. and Dorilla M. (Germain) Benoit. At the age of three, he moved with his family to Holyoke where he was raised on Summer Street, attended Precious Blood Grammar School and graduated from Holyoke Trade High School. He served his country in the United States Army and attained the rank of Private First Class. He moved to Southampton where he lived for 35 years, retired to Hawley, MA in 2000, and later moved to Chicopee in 2018 where he lived the remainder of his life. He was employed as a machinist, toolmaker, diemaker and moldmaker and worked at various places including the Springfield Armory, the L.D. Vanvalkenburg Company, the Wilderness Mold Company and the Osley and Whitney Company in Westfield where he retired in 1996. JB was a 25 year member of the Springdale Turners and a member of the Elks Club. He enjoyed hiking and biking and was a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club which was dear to his heart. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved partner and best friend, Vivian D. Boivin of Chicopee; Vivian’s children, Deborah A. Kos and her husband, Chester, of Carmel, IN and Steven G. Boivin of Chicopee; Vivian’s grandchildren, Michael Kos and his wife, Melinda, of Springfield, Stephanie Langford of Lake Wales, FL and Jacqueline Graham-Kos and her partner, Holly, of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Vivian’s great grandchildren, Samuel, Violet and Charles Kos and Lily Langford; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his three dear brothers, Eugene, Irené and Roland Benoit; and his dear sister, Dora Grègoire. His Funeral Services will be private.
