HANLEY, Mary Veronica Age 75, of Chestnut Hill, MA passed away peacefully, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Roslindale, MA.

Mary was born in Boston and raised in Jamaica Plain, MA. She was the daughter of the late Matthew Francis Hanley, Sr. and Mary (Pittman) Hanley of Jamaica Plain.

She attended Our Lady of Lourdes in Jamaica Plain, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Catherine Laboure School of Nursing and earned her Masters Degree in Nursing from the University of Washington in Seattle. Mary made nursing her life-long commitment with an extensive 50-year nursing career in large part supporting the VA Hospitals.

Mary was a member of the American Society of Registered Nurses and the American Thoracic Society.

Throughout her life, Mary was devoted to her family, her friends, and most importantly her Faith.

Mary is survived by her devoted and loving brothers and sisters: Robert Hanley and his wife, Marylee of Westwood, Martin Hanley and his wife, Judith of Waltham, Maureen Carrington and her husband, Ronald of Andover, Patricia Gelineau and her husband, Roy of Beverly, Michael Hanley and his wife, Jean of Delaware, John Hanley and his wife, Theresa of Pembroke, Stephen Hanley and his wife, Ana of Framingham, and Rosemary Hanley of Waltham. She is predeceased by her brothers Brian Hanley and Matthew F. Hanley, Jr.

Mary also had many nieces, nephews, and cousins, whom she loved deeply.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 16th at the Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street, West Roxbury, MA from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mary's Funeral Mass on Thursday, August 17th at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church, 2078 Centre Street, West Roxbury, MA.

Burial services will be held at the New Calvary Cemetery, 800 Harvard Street, Mattapan, MA immediately following the Funeral Mass.
