Helen Delores (Gomes) Gauthier, aged 82, a resident of Dracut, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, surrounded by her beloved family, following an extended period of illness. She was the cherished widow of the late Arthur "Sonny" Gauthier, who passed away in 2017, shortly before they celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.
Born on August 27, 1940, in Lowell, she was the daughter of the late Francisco and Caroline (Viera DeSousa) Gomes. Her upbringing and education were rooted in the Dracut community; graduating from Dracut High School with the class of 1958.
Following her high school graduation, she embarked on her professional journey by working as a typist at Fred C. Church Insurance in Lowell, a commitment that spanned numerous years. Subsequently, she contributed her skills to Hybrid Systems, before disability forced her early retirement.
Helen was a parishioner of St. Francis Church in Dracut for many years. She loved to read and watch game shows, especially Jeopardy hosted by Alex Trebek. She was a Red Sox fan and also enjoyed playing bingo. Helen loved to bake her famous brownies and share them with family and friends.
Helen is survived by her four children, Carol Cyr of Pelham, NH Joanne Cyr and her husband, Gary of Dracut, Wayne Gauthier of Dracut, and Paula St. Louis and her husband, James of Dracut. She also leaves behind her five beloved grandchildren, Stacy McGovern and her husband, Paul of Pelham, Derek Cyr and his wife, Lauryn, Jeremy Cyr, Emily St. Louis, and Tyler St. Louis, all of Dracut; and 2 great grandchildren, Charlotte and Owen Cyr of Dracut.
She is also survived by her siblings, Joseph Gomes of Pelham, NH, and Donna Gomes of Chelmsford; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, the late Mary Bradbury and the late Frank Gomes; she was sister in law of the late Pat Gomes, the late Joyce Gomes, and the late Linwood Bradbury.
The family would like to thank all of her home health aides and nurses from Tufts Medicine Care at Home and Commonwealth Nursing for their kindness and compassion during her final months.

On Tuesday, August 15, 2023 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 9-11 a.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816.
Her funeral service will take place in the funeral home at 11 a.m. following the calling hours, a procession for burial will follow to MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St, Winchendon, MA.
