Obituary

Manuel F. “Manny” Laurencio, 75, a longtime Lowell resident, passed away on Thursday, August 10 at Lowell General Hospital - Saints Campus after a long battle with dementia. He was the beloved husband of Maria Adelaide (Sousa) Laurencio, with whom he celebrated 52 years of marriage in May.

Manny was born on January 30, 1948 in Ribeira das Tainhas, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal. A son of the late Urbano Laurencio and the late Maria (Arruda) Laurencio, he was raised and educated in Sao Miguel. Along with his parents, he came to the United States in 1968, settling in Lowell.

He worked as a custodian for most of his life, mostly with Raytheon but eventually retired from UMass Lowell. Within Lowell’s Portuguese community he also found work as a handyman. He was a communicant of St. Anthony Church. A hardworking family man, he also enjoyed fishing, especially in the ocean. Fishing on his boat the “Maria Adelaide” was where he spent much of his free time. Additionally he made his own wine, tending to his own personal garden and vines.

He is survived by his 4 children, Manuel S. Laurencio and his wife, Lisa, of Londonderry, Maria Roberge and her fiance, John Bettencourt, of Peabody, James Laurencio and his wife, Robin, of Danville, NH, Steve Laurencio and his wife, Cintia, of Bedford, his beloved grandchildren, Ava, Jillian, Desmond, James Jr., Joel, Jett, Josiah, Elijah and Cecilia Laurencio.

He also leaves behind his 11 siblings, Jose Laurencio, Fatima Realejo, Carlos Laurencio, Urbano Laurencio, Connie Davis , Angel Bridell , Martha Sousa, Ana Silva, Lisa Leal, John Laurencio, Alfred Laurencio and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

All are welcome to attend his Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16 at St. Anthony Church, 893 Central Street, Lowell, MA. A procession will follow for burial at Lowell Cemetery.
