Mary C. (Conley) Ellis, age 70, of South Dartmouth, died unexpectedly on Sunday, August 6, 2023. Born and raised in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late J. Frank and Marian E. (Whitcomb) Conley, Jr.
Mary was a 1971 graduate of Cardinal Spellman High School and earned her degree in Food Science and Technology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. While a student at UMass she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
Following her retirement from a successful professional career in the food industry with H.J. Heinz Company, Caterair International Corporation and LSG Sky Chefs, both nationally and internationally, Mary moved to South Dartmouth and became involved in various associations in town. She was a longtime board member of the Association for the Relief of Aged Women (ARAW) and past president of the Friends of the Dartmouth Libraries. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Church where she was past chair of the Social Concerns Ministry and longtime lector. In 2017 Mary was awarded the Marian Medal by the Archdiocese of Fall River for her charity works. She was also a Town Meeting member and past president of the Hidden Bay Condo Association.
Mary is survived by her six sisters Susan Nichols, Elizabeth Cochran and her husband Jerry, Anne Roan and her husband Steve, Trish Cirillo and her husband Ralph, Jane Lukasiewicz and her husband Steve and the Reverend Joan Conley. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who adored their Auntie Mary.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, on Tuesday, August 15, from 3-6pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Wednesday at 9:30am for a Funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein Church at 10:30am followed by burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Brockton.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church, 795 Dartmouth Street, Dartmouth, MA on Monday, August 28 at 10am.
