Richard J. O’Connor, 76 of Worcester, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 8th, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his wife of 54 years, Cathy (Reynolds) O’Connor; two sons, Stephen O’Connor and his wife, Dawn, of West Boylston, Kevin O’Connor of Worcester; a daughter, Kelley O’Connor of North Oxford; four grandchildren, Devon Brunner and her husband Frank, Kyle
O’Connor, Ryan O’Connor, and Kayleigh O’Connor as well as two great grandchildren.
He was born in Worcester the son of Charles and Mary (Dorsey) O’Connor. Richard served as a supervisor and postmaster at the United States Postal Service for 35 years up until his retirement in 2002. He was known for having a wonderful sense of humor and making a game out of anything. When he was able, he loved to golf. He always looked forward to playing cards with friends. Rich took great pleasure in going on long Sunday rides and always searching for his next ice cream cone. He enjoyed vacationing at the Cape. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family.
Rich also leaves behind a brother, John O’Connor and his wife, Cathy of Holden; a sister, Mary Blanchard and her husband, Charles of Sturbridge; his in-laws, Judy O’Connor, Tommy Reynolds and his wife, Kris, Judy Freelander, Jane Harris and her husband, Bob, and Michael Miale; and his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Matthew O’Connor and Charles O’Connor.
His funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, August 16th at 11:00 am at Christ the King Parish, 1052 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Burial is private. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 16th from 8:30 am until 10:30 am in O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue.
