MURPHY, Ann Elizabeth On Sunday, August 6, 2023, the gates of heaven opened and welcomed Ann Elizabeth Beattie Murphy, 83, into eternal life, surrounded by the love of family and no doubt greeted at heaven's gate by her son, Michael Patrick Murphy, her parents, Catherine and Henry Beattie, her brother Henry Joseph Beattie, her sister-in-law Jeanne Murphy and her beloved dogs Spotty, Moy, Kacy, Connor and Patrick.
Ann’s spirit now lives on in the hearts of her beloved husband of 62 years, William Joseph Murphy, daughters Kathleen Eberle (Robert) of Hampton, NH, Maureen Frazier (Hans) of Austin, TX, son Kyle Murphy (Rachel) of Glendale, AZ, grandchildren Nicole, Michael, Kylie, Aidan, Alexander, and William, as well as a host of in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
Ann lived the Golden Rule, a woman of great kindness. She loved family, friends and animals, especially horses and her pugs. Her blue-eyed smile would greet everyone she met. For her lifetime, she would seek out need with conviction, always looking for an opportunity to give the shirt off her back. Ann was a great listener with an extraordinary gift for making others feel valued and empowered. Her kindness to and acceptance of others belied an underlying strength and independence.
A New Yorker at heart, she married Bill, the love of her life, at 19 years old and eventually found home in the sacred spaces of Sherborn, Woodstock, Weston, and Wellesley. Ann loved family celebrations and being a generous gift-giver. She never backed away from a challenge whether it be a solid debate, illness, or going back to college to finish her psychology degree and graduating at the top of the class at age 40. Always ready for a good book, long walk, a great fashion statement, football season, a bridge game with friends, more time with her grandchildren, morning coffee and a nightly meal with Bill. Ann was fun, and boy was she loyal. She is now at peace, reunited in heaven with her son and many family members, and her earthly presence will be greatly missed.
The family extends sincere gratitude to the providers and staff at Cornerstone at Hampton and Beacon Health Hospice for their love and care over the past four years.
To celebrate Ann’s life, visiting hours will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16) Wellesley, MA on Sunday, August 13 from 4-6pm. Her funeral will be held from the funeral home on Monday, August 14 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 502 Washington St., Wellesley, MA at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. A Rite of Committal will be held immediately following the funeral at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sherborn, MA.
