Janet Drury, 75

Janet Drury, age 75, passed away in Mansfield, MA on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 after suffering from metastatic lung cancer.

Janet is remembered as a loving and loyal mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and special friend to so many. Jan’s life was inspired by a strong family foundation, a passion for athletics, and she enjoyed surrounding herself with great people. Jan was a healthy athlete all her life and she never smoked.

Janet was born and raised in Fitchburg, MA and earned a Bachelor of Science in 1970 from Springfield College in Springfield, MA. Jan began her career teaching physical education and coaching girls’ gymnastics in Plymouth, MA. Jan found a passion with massage therapy later in life when she became certified in 1993 at the Bancroft School of Massage Therapy in Worcester, MA. Jan held the National Sports Massage Certification in the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), as well as, certification in Orthopedic and Sports injuries from the Omeri Institute. Jan volunteered her massage services to Elite, National, International, and local events including the 1996 Olympic Games, Ironman USA, the USA Volleyball Open, the Wheelchair Amputee Championship, and the Jimmy Fund Marathon Walk. She was also invited to be a member of the Elite Recovery Team at the Boston Marathon for 12 years.

Janet was living her best life when she partnered with Jack Costello. They enjoyed a snowbird lifestyle of boating season aboard the Nike II in Noank, CT and residency in Palm Beach Gardens, FL for many happy years.

Janet was predeceased by her husband, Jack, brother Bubba Drury, mother Helen Drury, and father Leon Drury, Jr. Jan leaves daughter Heather Martin and son-in-law Ray Martin of Norton, MA and son Timothy J Drury and daughter-in-law Sara Gellatly of St. Petersburg, FL; two grandchildren, Ray and Kayla Martin of Norton, MA, brother Bill Drury of Virginia Beach, VA and brother Leon Drury, III of Smithfield, RI.

Janet lived with passion for her work, gratitude for her children’s happiness, and enthusiasm for her grandchildren’s interests and activities. “Nanny Janny” was so proud of her family and will be remembered with love.

The family would like to thank the Willows Crossing community and Old Colony Hospice for their companionship and attentive care during Janet’s final journey.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life service at the Trinitarian Congregational Church, 2 Pine Street, Norton, MA on Tuesday, August 22nd at 3PM. A committal service is planned for Wednesday, August 23rd at 3 PM at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA.
