Margaret L. (Sylvia) Soares, 99, of Dartmouth passed away Sunday August 6, 2023 after living a well-lived life. She was the wife of the late Serafin Soares.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Theresa (Lyons) Sylvia, she lived in Dartmouth for most of her life.
Mrs. Soares was formerly employed as a cashier at UMass Dartmouth until her retirement. She had also worked in the Meat Department at Big G Supermarket and Food Mart.
She enjoyed playing Bingo and going to the casino. In her later years, she enjoyed coloring and drawing.
She is survived by her son, Gary M. Soares and his wife Elaine; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Stephen J. Soares, and her siblings, Alice Medeiros, Theresa Pempek, and Joseph A. Sylvia.
A family funeral service will be held on Friday August 11th at 11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, with family visitation prior from 9:30-11 AM. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
