Obituary

Havlin, Susan (Airasian), 76, passed away August 04, 2023, at her seasonal home in Kingston, NH. Susan was preceded in death by her husband James “Hav” Havlin, her parents George and Dorothy Airasian, and her dear sister-in-law Lena Toli. Devoted mother of Stephen E. Toli and his wife Louisa, Stacey Toli, and Lonnie Toli and his wife Janis. Sister to George Airasian and his wife Carol and Jimmy Airasian and his wife Taffey. Sister-in-law to Lawrence (Larry) and Dianne Hughes. Aunt to Gail (Shane) Norton, Andrew (Monique) Airasian, Jim (Jane) Hughes, and Tara (Sean) McShera. Susan’s proudest accomplishment was raising her three children. As a single parent, she was required to work multiple jobs to support her family. Susan wanted to see all her children become successful. She taught them that if you want something nice you must go out and earn it. Her last job was at Hill Estates in Belmont, MA. Susan loved the tenants at Hill Estates but was most fond of her bosses. She worked there until September 2003 at which time she suffered a massive stroke during an operation. Although the stroke left her paralyzed, non-verbal, and confined to a wheelchair Susan defied all odds by living an additional almost 20 years. Susan was an extraordinarily strong woman and would not allow the disability to hinder her from leading a fulfilling life with her husband and children. Two of her favorite things in life were Elvis and animals. In addition to attending several Elvis concerts in her younger years, she was able to meet The King in 1969 backstage at the International Hotel in Las Vegas where he gave her a kiss on her cheek. Susan loved all types of animals. She and Jim owned a 31-year-old parakeet named Sami that we said survived that long because they allowed him free reign of their residence. They also would feed countless feral cats from the neighborhood; some of which they adopted as their own. Animals brought Susan happiness and joy and especially were a source of comfort and support in her later years. A Celebration of Life will take place at the Aram Bedrosian Funeral Home, 558 Mount Auburn Street, Watertown on Monday, August 14 from 3 - 6 p.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the MSPCA-Angell West-Waltham, 293 Second Avenue, Waltham, MA 02451.
