Susan “Sue” M Norcott (Peterson) 57 of Whitman, passed away on Thursday August 3rd surrounded by her loving family after a courageous 7-year battle with cancer.
Sue was born in Boston in 1965 to her beloved late parents Raymond and Dorothy (O’Brien) Peterson. Her family moved to Abington Mass in 1976 and she graduated Abington High in 1984.
She worked at Angelos/Purity Supermarket for about 13 years. This was where she met the love of her life, her husband of 30 years, William Norcott and together they built a beautiful family.
Sue went to Stonehill and Bridgewater State College where she received her Bachelors in Education and later received her Masters at Endicott College. She worked for over 20 years in the Whitman Hanson Regional School District spending her last 16 years as a 5th grade teacher at Duval Elementary School. Teaching was her passion and she was dedicated to her students and always made it her priority to help each of them succeed. She was at school every day possible, even while receiving chemo treatments.
Family was the most important thing in her life. Her children were her world. She was an incredible loving mom to her daughter Kara (Norcott) Burke and husband Peter, her son Mike Norcott and wife Becky, and her furbaby Rusty. Sue was also an amazing “Mima” and enjoyed spending her retirement with her granddaughter Emmalynne and grand-dog Maverick.
She enjoyed reading, baking the most delicious desserts, quilting, camping at Autumn Hills with her family and camp friends who became family, as well as hosting many parties and family gatherings. Every summer Sue and her family would go on a traditional “Norcott Family Vacation'' to either New Hampshire or the Cape. She always talked about how their trip to Hampton Beach was her absolute favorite. It was just the four of them spending a lot of quality time together.
Sue is survived by her sister Peggy Blake and husband Jeff, brother Ray Peterson, brother-in-law Chuck husband of her late sister Dot Chuckran, sister Chris Glover and husband Bill, sister Jen Hodgell and husband Mike, and sister Katie Stephenson and husband Matt.
