Steve John Massey, Sr., 77, of Omega passed away Thursday, August 3, 2023, at his residence. A graveside funeral service will be held for Mr. Massey at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Rebecca, where he will be laid to rest. The Rev. Ryan Carnes will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 5, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Born July 16, 1946, Mr. Massey was a native of Rebecca, Georgia and was the son of the late Ernest Willie Massey, Sr. and Lessie Overby Massey. He was also preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Mr. Massey lived in Rebecca most of his life and later moved to Omega, Georgia where he lived the remainder of his life. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Rebecca.
He was a loving husband to his wife, Mary, for 57 years. He loved her with all his heart. He told her daily that he loved her and that he appreciated her taking care of him. He told us daily that Granny did a good job of taking care of him.
He was a retired farmer. Farming was his life. When he retired, he still wanted to be driving a tractor. He enjoyed driving a tractor especially a John Deere. He always said nothing runs like a Deere. From turning land, planting, plowing to picking, he loved it.
Mr. Massey is survived by his wife, Mary Massey of Omega; one son, Steve John Massey, Jr. of Omega; two daughters, Martha Gibbs (Terri Duke) and Teresa Massey, all of Tifton; one sister, Lois Bruce of Pineview; four grandchildren, Andrew Massey, Kayla Massey, Bradley Massey (Amber) and Kimberly Massey; and six great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Keegan, Gavin, Hadlee, Braelin and Ryder.
