Obituary

ESTERO, FL – Doreen A. (Freytag) Haas Belanger, 80, of Estero, Florida and a longtime resident of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, July 31, 2023 after a short and unexpected illness. She was born in Holyoke on September 7, 1942, a beloved daughter of the late Louis V. and Laurette (Annotte) Freytag. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Precious Blood High School in Holyoke, and lived in Chicopee for many years. She later lived in Southampton and then moved to Estero, Florida in 2005 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was an Administrative Assistant and Claims Processor for the Baystate Health Systems in Springfield. Doreen enjoyed gardening, reading, and was a friend of Bill W, but most of all, spending time with her cherished grandchildren. She was a longtime communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee where she was very active in her parish and served as an Usher for many years. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She leaves her beloved husband, Dennis R. Belanger of Estero, FL and his daughter, Dawn Abram of Jacksonville, FL; her former husband, Albert F. Haas of Palmer; her two loving sons, Jeffrey F. Haas and his wife, Jean-Marie, of Hilham, TN, and James T. Haas and his wife, Sarajane, of Easthampton; her four cherished grandchildren, Kevin Haas and Katherine Penley, both of Maine, and Alexander Haas and Evan Haas, both of Westfield; her cherished great granddaughter, Regan; her two dear sisters, her twin, Elaine Forgie of Springfield, and Janice J. Morin of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and many friends. Her family will receive friends on Monday, August 21, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her funeral service and burial will be private. Her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Botanic Garden of Smith College, 16 College Lane, Northampton, MA 01063.
