Maurice G. Lerman, of Pine Island, FL, formerly of Boston, Revere, and Windham, N.H, passed away on August 1, 2023, in Sarasota, Florida. Moe was born in Jamaica Plain on June 7, 1929, to the late Benjamin and Bessie Lerman and raised in Boston. Moe was a graduate of Jamaica Plain High School, attended Boston University and served his country in the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps.
During his younger years, Moe worked in the family business, Hyde Athletic Shoe Company of Cambridge, alongside his father, grandfather, and uncles. Following his work at Hyde, Moe then went on to join his father and uncle’s new venture, Boston Athletic Shoe Company on Harrison Ave in Boston.
After returning to Boston following the Marine Corps, Moe went on to attend Boston University and went on to work for Merchants Distributors in Boston for over 30 years. Moe was a former member of the Quincy Yacht Club, where he and his friends from the old baseball Tavern would spend countless hours fishing, and Island hopping in Boston Harbor. It was during this time, he met Marie McCauley, the love of his life, and immediately became endeared to this large Irish Revere Family.
Following his marriage to Marie, they settled in the Point of Pines section of Revere enjoying their large circle of friends in the Pines community until relocating to N.H. During their time in New Hampshire, Moe and Marie became active with the Ronald Reagan campaign, and other political campaigns, while residing in Windham, N.H.
Moe in his “retirement” embarked on his second career with Mohawk Supply of Hingham for 22 years until the age of 81- he considered the Mohawk team as his second family and enjoyed his many years of work with these wonderful folks, and of course, his beloved customers throughout New England. During his retirement years, Moe continued fishing and golfing in New England and in his beloved Pine Island, Florida.
Members of the family include a son and his wife, Tom & Kelly Lerman, three grandsons, Michael Lerman, Patrick (Stephanie) Lerman and Brendan (Sara) Lerman; a great granddaughter, Isabella, two great grandsons, Jaxon and Finn, and his sister Jean Gilbert. Moe was predeceased by his beloved wife Marie (McCauley) Lerman in 1984 and a sister Barbara Cohen.
An hour of visitation will be held Saturday August 12, 2023 from 11 am to 12 pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road in Londonderry, followed by a graveside committal with Marine Honors at Cemetery on the Plain, 5 Cobbetts Pond Road, Windham.
