Ann Marie Tierney, a resident of Boston and formerly of Lawrence, entered into eternal life after a lengthy illness at Bridges by Epoch, Andover on Saturday, July 29, 2023. She was 91 years of age.
Ann was born on June 21, 1932 in New York City, the daughter of the late Nicholas and Bridget (McCarthy) Tierney and the sister of the late Margaret Mary Downes. Ann graduated from Saint Patrick’s Grammar School and Saint Patrick’s High School in South Lawrence and from Boston College School of Nursing. She served as a pediatric nurse and devoted most of her career at Boston City Hospital. She also was a pediatric nurse at Tufts Floating Hospital and completed her pediatric nursing career at the Franciscan Children’s Hospital in Brighton, Massachusetts.
Ann is the beloved Aunt of Dr. Yvonne Miller Downes of NY, Dianne and Jim McRae of Alaska, Kevin and Laura Downes of NY, Yvonne and Tony Conza of Florida and the late Nicholas Downes. She is the Grandaunt of Patrick Downes, Christian Downes, Nicole Burkett, Daniel Downes, Taylor McRae and in-laws Roger and Janet Downes.
She is the devoted Irish Cousin to Fr. Daniel J. Mahoney, Pastor Emeritus of Saint Francis de Sales Parish, Charlestown and the Chief Chaplain Emeritus of the Boston Fire Department and the late Mary E. Mahoney. She is a special friend of the Mahoney’s of New Hampshire, Joan Rae and Tom DeWinters.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ann’s visiting hours on Thursday morning, August 10, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 11:30AM in the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis de Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown at noon. Burial will take place after the Mass at the Mahoney lot at Saint James Cemetery in Haverhill.
