Alice Maes, 96 years young, passed away on July 27th, 2023 at her home in Ventura, California. Alice was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico to Presciliana and Cruz Lucero on September 8th, 1926. She was well known for her strong and hardworking spirit, taking pride in her work as a beauty operator, waitress, interpreter, elderly caregiver, and her enduring love as matriarch of her family. Alice was an accomplished artist with multiple ribbons won at the Ventura County Fair for her beautiful artworks over the years. She had a keen eye for the natural beauty in the world and gave thanks for it daily. She also had a great passion for music and dancing, knowing how to cut a rug with the best of them, and was the highlight of every birthday with her harmonica playing.
Alice was involved in her church, Our Lady of the Assumption, as a volunteer and cherished congregation member. She was also part of YLI #160 - the Young Ladies’ Institute - supporting the advancement of women through Catholic values.
Her spirit lives on with her brother Chris Lucero; children Anthony, Priscilla (and partner Lisa), Theodore (and wife Rebecca), and Rita Maes; grandchildren Peter, Adrian (and wife Erin), and Aleah Maes, Zachary and Emily DiStefano; great-grandson Seneca Maes; along with countless friends and lives she has touched.
Family and friends are invited to a visiting hour to be held on Friday evening August 11, 2023, from 6 to 7pm in Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 3175 Telegraph Road, Ventura, where a Most Holy Rosary will be recited at 7pm. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday Morning August 12, 2023, at 11:30 am in Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, followed immediately by interment at Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery, Oxnard, followed by a celebration of life gathering.
