Obituary

Daniel A. Manning, 79 years old currently of Abington, MA, formerly of Whitman, MA for 50 years, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on July 28, 2023. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend.

He was born in Boston on May 9, 1944, son of James Manning and Cornelia (Ruddy) Manning. He grew up in Brighton and graduated from St Mary’s of the Assumption High School in Brookline in 1962.

He worked for several years in the food service industry before changing careers. Most recently he worked at Brockton District Court as a Court Officer and retired after 15 years of service. After retirement, he worked part time at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Whitman.

He loved attending Boston Red Sox games and working at the 600 Club. Dan was loved and appreciated by everyone who knew him. He enjoyed the beach, reading outside, word searches and visiting with friends. What he enjoyed most was spending time with family. He was devoted to his faith and was an active member of Holy Ghost Parish.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Diane J. Manning, son Tony Manning and wife Tricia of Concord NH, and daughter Marianne Pappaceno and husband Brian of Abington, MA, brothers James Manning, David Manning and wife MaryAnn, Lawrence Manning and wife Nancy, sister-in-law Dora Manning and predeceased in death by his brother Robert Manning. He is also survived by his grandchildren Josh, Ryan and wife Hannah, Brittany and husband Jonathan, Ryan, Sidney, Casey, Ashley and Hailey, great-grandchildren Nolan, Lailah, Emmett and Wyatt and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Beacon Hospice for all their support and care.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday August 3, from 4:00-7:00 PM, in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. At 9:45 AM Friday everyone is welcomed to join the family at the Funeral Chapel and join them in a procession to the church. A Mass will be held Friday August 4, at 10:30 AM at the Holy Ghost Church, with a burial to follow in St. James Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the Dana Farber Cancer Center, Weymouth, MA.
