Jannett Marlyn Hearns, R.N., was born December 23, 1958 in Batan, Costa Rica to Samuel Antonio Reid and Courtney Louise (Edwards) Reid. Jannett’s family arrived in the United States in October of 1961 and settled in West Medford, Massachusetts. Five years later, they all became naturalized US citizens. If you knew Jannett like her family knew of her, you would know that her intellect was off the charts. She was always a high academic achiever from kindergarten thru nursing school, thus proving to be a positive role model to her younger sister who always sought to follow in her footsteps. Jannett attended the Wait Elementary school, Hobbs Junior High school and later the Medford High school where she graduated in 1976. Jannett went on to higher learning, attending Boston College and later Simmons University where she become a geriatric Registered Nurse. She worked hard as an R.N. in her field until retirement. She most recently was employed part time at the Bright View Senior Living Center where she worked as a Concierge.
Always possessing a no quit attitude, many would see her walk around the Mystic River near her home. Many were astonished and admired seeing her get back up and persevere through several health adversities. Jannett’s drive and determination was a testament to her character, ever challenging against the odds that many of us might never reach.
Jannett was a loving, kind and gentle soul and expressed those qualities as a mother, grandmother, daughter, aunt and sibling. Never forgetting a birthday, or special occasion and event to remind you of how proud she was of you. The family will cherish the memories of her laughter, her smiles, her gentle touch, her comforting words, learning piano, singing songs, dancing with her granddaughters, visiting family in Costa Rica, Atlanta and Maryland, watching the Celtics and the New England Patriots games, or the routine of catching the nightly news everyday with her brother.
Jannett loved the Lord God Almighty, with all her heart and never stopped seeking to deepen her relationship with the Lord through fellowship, studying the word, praying daily and pondering on His mercies over her life. Jannett would sing praises and worship Him through songs of the gospel and hymns while being a faithful member of the West Medford Baptist Church. There she cultivated close friends who kept her in prayer daily.
Jannett’s personal ministry where she labored long every weekend when having the opportunity was to teach her twin granddaughters, “the girls” about who Jesus was and is and about the importance of having Him in their lives. This was a very, very important ministry and mission for her, from which she often prayed that those planted seeds would never depart from them.
The scriptures say in 1 Peter 4:11, If any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth; that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ: to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen
Jannett is survived by her daughter; Juanita Escobar H. (Anderson), twin granddaughters; Julianna Joy Escobar and Adrianna May Escobar. Jannett was a family cherished gift that the Lord had given to those of us who must live on yet awhile… The memory of that perfect homegoing day, with such beautiful songs coming up out of her freed spirit, will remain a sweet, sweet comfort in the days to come. Because finally, things were well with her soul! The Lord saw to it, to give us her family, that blessed assurance. The Lord has blessed our family through our dearly departed‘s quiet, humble life and has set everything in order and had been preparing us for some time.
The word in Isaiah says, “The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart; the devout are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil. Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death.”
