Earl Maxwell “Max” Sheffield, 83, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Community Hospice at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Sunday, July 30, 2023, at Arbor Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Cam Jordan will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church on Sunday.
Mr. Sheffield was born September 9, 1939, in Abbeville, Georgia, to the late Prentice Earl & Faustine Keen Sheffield. After graduation, he served his country honorably in the United States Air Force for four years. He worked in maintenance for Gilman Building Products and worked with his father at P.E. Sheffield & Son Farm Service. He was a member of the American Legion and Arbor Baptist Church where he enjoyed the Saturday morning Men’s Bible Study.
He is survived by his children: Josh Sheffield of Statesboro and Jill Sheffield Taylor & Christian of Statesboro; grandchildren: Kelsey Cheyenne Griffin, Nicholas Scott Griffin, and Sara Elizabeth Sheffield; and his companion, Dana Bunday of Fitzgerald. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Scarborough Sheffield; and a sister, Prentiss Lynn Sheffield.
