A beautiful love story came to an earthly end on July 20th. 2023. God called Sidney Martin Davis 86, home on July 20th, 2023. She was born in Tifton GA on September 15th, 1936 to the late Robert Martin and Mary Banks Herring Martin. She was the last living grandchild of John Lewis Herring and Martha Susan Herring.
God allowed Lester Howard Davis, 89 widower of Sidney Davis, to join her on July 23rd, 2023. He was born in Tifton GA on October 14th, 1933 to the late John Baldwin Davis Sr and Maude Hutchinson Davis.
Lester and Sidney were married for almost 65 years. Their marriage was the picture of special, stable, and supportive. They modeled servant leadership to a tee. Always taking care of and accepting of those they loved.
Sidney worked managing their home and caring for their son while he was in school. Afterwards she worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield of GA. Retiring from there in 2001. Lester worked at Georgia Power as an electrical engineer for 32 years. He enjoyed retirement beginning in 1988. In retirement they both enjoyed traveling, having coffee with friends and working on their fruit orchard. Aside from her parents Sidney was preceeded in death by her sister Mary Banks Spurlin. Aside from Lester's parents he was preceeded in death by his brothers, John Baldwin Davis Jr, Ray Davis, and Dr Morris Davis (Laurien Davis). They are survived by their son Dale Davis, his wife Michelle Davis and grandchildren Jenna Gleckler, Aaron Gleckler and Ava Gleckler, sisters in-laws Margie Applewhite and Joyce Davis, many nieces and nephews.
A memorial graveside service will be held at Zion Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Tifton GA on Saturday August 5th at 2:00 p.m. Bowen Donaldson Home for Funerals is in charge of the service.
