Sr. Marie Madigan, MHSH
Sr. Marie Madigan went home to God on July 21, 2023, in Brockton, Massachusetts.
She was 100 years old and had been a member of the Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart Community for 75 years.
Born in Brighton, Massachusetts, she was a member of St. Columbkille Church when she joined the Mission Helpers in 1948. Her early ministries took her to Michigan, Massachusetts, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, New York and Virginia. Her focus was on religious education, and she served as director of religious education at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Brockton from 1976 to 2009.
At the time of her death, Sr. Marie was living and lovingly cared for at Heights Crossing Assisted Living in Brockton, where she had continued her ministry of spiritual support among residents and staff.
Sr. Marie held a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Maryland and a master’s degree from Manhattanville College in New York.
She is survived by her niece, Geraldine Coughlin, and several nieces and nephews and their children; dear friends Barbara Latham and Patricia LeBlanc; and her Mission Helper Sisters. She is predeceased by her parents, her sisters, and many beloved friends and family members.
Visitation Monday, July 31, 8:45 to 10 a.m.; Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., both at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 433 West Street, Brockton, Massachusetts.
