Daniel Wayne "Dan" Dugan passed away on July 25, 2023 in Ventura, California. Dan was born in Pittsburg, Kansas, where his father was in Army flight training in 1943 to Wayne and Martha (Bowman) Dugan. War years were spent with his mother on his grandparents' farm in Ohio. After the war, the Dugans moved to California.
Dan graduated from the University of the Pacific, Stockton, California in 1965. He participated in debate and sang in the A Cappella Choir. His teaching career began at Williams High School in Williams, California. He turned a football town on to basketball and created the choir program. Here is where he first donned his signature cowboy hat. He then came to Ventura County to teach 8th grade Social Studies at Ocean View Junior High School in Oxnard. He developed the debate program and was active in CTA negotiations.
Summers were spent van camping with his wife Judy, visiting 42 National Parks, Alaska and all points in between. Other interests were working several crossword puzzles daily and following sports and politics.
Dan is survived by his wife of 36 years, Judy; his daughter, Meighan Zimmerman; three grandchildren: Natasha, Trent & Chase Zimmerman; his son Joshua and brother Robert.
Ashes will be scattered in one of his favorite places in the Rocky Mountains.
