George Sprague, 92, of Halifax, MA, passed away peacefully at home on July 17th. George was born and raised in Abington, MA to Alma and Seth Sprague with four siblings.
George joined the Navy and served four years during the Korean conflict. He returned to Abington and attended a business school, where he met the love of his life, Anita. Shortly after their marriage, they traveled on a cross country road trip visiting our nation’s beautiful National Parks. Upon their return, George joined the United States Postal Service. George and Anita built a house in Abington until they bought their dream home in Halifax where they resided and raised their two children.
George was a hardworking, kind, generous, and dedicated family man. He enjoyed watching his children grow up, graduate from school and start their own life journeys. George was always quick to bring up a conversation with anyone he met. His laugh and smile lit up the room. George found joy in providing for his family and pets. He enjoyed working in the vegetable garden, sharing the produce with family, friends and neighbors, along with raising dogs, cats, horses and other barnyard animals. George always had a project to work on around their property, whether it be the house, barn, workshop, or hen house and there was always fencing to be mended or firewood to cut and stack.
George proudly served the United States Postal Service for 33 years in his childhood town of Abington where he was able to enjoy lunch on his mail route at his mother’s house. He received many commendations for his service.
George is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anita, his daughter Susan Bird and her late husband Michael, his son Douglas Sprague and his wife, Dedria.
George was preceded in death by his siblings; Edith Davis of Marcellus, MI, Herbert Sprague of Abington, MA, Barbara Sprague of Abington, MA and David Sprague and his surviving spouse Carol of Leesburg, FL. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law Patricia Beaber of Lawrenceville, NJ and Irma Vasel of Halifax, MA as well as many nieces, nephews, and his faithful dog Gracie.
