Obituary

After a long and fulfilling life Ann N. (Monahan) Carpenter passed away on July 20,2023, at the age of 85. Ann was born in Lowell, February 1938, a beloved daughter of Leo Martin Monahan Sr. and Anna (McErlane) Monahan, both from longtime Lowell families. As a child she lived many places with her family, including New York, Alabama, Florida, and Cuba, where she learned to speak fluent Spanish. Ann graduated from Lowell High School in 1957. She worked in retail for many years and enjoyed many long-lasting friendships with her former co-workers.

Growing up in Lowell, she was blessed with the friendship of her many first cousins, including the families of her aunts Frances (McErlane) Fadden and Elizabeth Joan (McErlane) Donaghey. She would always recall good memories of spending time at her grandmother’s house on Third Avenue with her extended family.

She met the love of her life, Bruce, in September 1965 and they were married a little more than a year later in November of 1966. They enjoyed over 56 years of marriage and were truly each other’s best friend.

She raised her family in the Belvidere section of Lowell and was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church.

Ann enjoyed an active and healthy lifestyle. She was an avid walker and would take long daily walks with her neighbors, sometimes taking two or three walks a day. She and Bruce had breakfast every Saturday morning at The Club Diner and had a standing date every Saturday night that included dinner and a walk around a local mall. She enjoyed classic t.v. shows, and listening to music. As a young woman she took guitar lessons and continued playing for many years.

A Disney World super fan, she visited Disney World in Orlando extensively, taking trips to Orlando with her husband and family, by car at least twice a year for the past thirty years. One of her more memorable trips to Disney was with her husband Bruce, two daughters, son in law, three grandsons, niece Heather and her family. Ann was always the first one awake every morning ready to hit the parks.

She was happiest spending time with her family, hosting the annual 4th of July cookout in her backyard, going to the beach with her daughters and grandsons, and ordering pizza on a Sunday night with her family. Her greatest source of joy was her three grandsons. Ann made many trips to Story Land, Santa’s Village, and Canobie Lake Park with the boys. She also attended every soccer, basketball game, and school play or band concert that her grandsons participated in.

Ann is survived by her husband of 56 years Bruce Carpenter, son Scott Carpenter of San Francisco, CA, daughter and son in law, Sheila (Carpenter) Corrado and Paul Corrado of Leominster, MA and daughter Kerri Carpenter and grandson Caleb Carpenter of Westford, MA., also grandsons Jevin Corrado and his partner Brieanna Benoit of Chelsea, MA, and Logan Corrado of Leominster, MA. Ann leaves a special cousin Catherine Fadden and four dear nieces Heather Monahan, Kat Monaghan, Colleen Monaghan Reis, and Erin Monahan Balcom and their families. She also leaves two nephews Kurt Hanson and Erik Fecke and their families. She is predeceased by her brother Leo M. Monahan, Jr. of Lowell, MA and sister in-law Cheryl Carpenter of Tewksbury, Ma.

In honor of her memory, her family asks that you enjoy a nice walk on a sunny day and take time to enjoy the company of your family.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life in Ann’s memory to be held Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. at The Establishment Restaurant, 75 Princeton Street, N. Chelmsford, MA. Please come and share a fond memory of Ann.
