John L. Sennott of Winthrop passed away peacefully on July 20, 2023 just a few months short of his 80th birthday. John was the longtime loving companion of Christine O’Brien. Born in Cambridge, he was the cherished son of the late George and Katherine (Langton) Sennott.
John worked for many years as a bank examiner for the Commonwealth of MA and then as a bank executive and loan officer in various Massachusetts community banks. In later years, John owned and operated a small business (Showcase Laundromat) in Winthrop with many devoted customers and employees until retiring again last year.
John was the devoted father of John (Jack) L. Sennott Jr. and his wife Donna of Simsbury, CT, Kevin Sennott and his wife Colleen of Warwick, RI, and Heather and Kelly Sennott both of Winthrop. He was the adored grandfather (Papa) of Katherine, Rachel, Brian, Anna and Elizabeth Sennott and Alanna Hernandez and her husband Antonio, Kevin Sennott and his long-time companion Anna Doten, Samantha Legere and her husband Anthony and loving great-grandfather of Sadie Grace Legere. John was the dear brother of the late George Sennott. John was the former husband of Grace M. (Conway) Sennott of Winthrop. A resident of Winthrop for over 60 years, John leaves many friends, nieces, and nephews both in Winthrop and in Florida.
John’s visiting hours and funeral services will be held in the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home 210 Winthrop St., Winthrop, MA. Visiting hours will be from 4-8PM on Wednesday, July 26 and the funeral service will be on Thursday, July 27, at 10AM. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment will be in Winthrop Cemetery (Belle Isle Section). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to WINARC, P.O.
