Fairhaven - Janice Rita Souza Randall, a former administrator at Radcliffe College and teacher at several Massachusetts schools, died on July 17 at her home in the Atria senior living facility in Fairhaven. She was 83.
For 20 years, Ms. Randall worked at Harvard University, serving as a publicist and administrator for the Mary Ingraham Bunting Institute at Radcliffe College (now the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study) and the Henry A. Murray Research Center, also at Radcliffe (now part of Harvard’s Institute for Quantitative Social Science). Prior to her time at Harvard, she was program coordinator at Lesley College (now Lesley University) in Cambridge.
In earlier years, Ms. Randall taught English at various public and private schools, including Fisher Junior College, the International Institute, and Newman Preparatory School in Boston; Dartmouth High School and Bishop Stang High School in North Dartmouth; and Fairhaven High School. Following her retirement from Harvard in 2003, she served as an administrative assistant and wedding coordinator at Emmanuel Church in Boston before returning to her native South Coast in 2015.
Born in New Bedford in 1940, the daughter of the late Ernest Souza and Margaret (Doyle) Souza, Ms. Randall attended New Bedford public schools as a child, graduating from New Bedford High School in 1958 and from Bridgewater State College in 1962. She continued her education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she earned a master’s degree in English in 1969.
Ms. Randall was the widow of Dean L. Randall, a former city editor of the Attleboro Sun and the New Bedford Standard-Times as well as former metropolitan editor of the Boston Herald. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, MacLaren Randall and Laurie Jakobsen of New York, N.Y.; a sister, Elinor Borrman of San Rafael, Calif.; stepdaughters Kim Randall and Jennifer Randall, both of Mattapoisett; granddaughters Rebecca Randall of New York, N.Y., and Leah Randall of Mattapoisett; and several nieces and nephews.
Ms. Randall was also the sister of the late Leone Benevides of New Bedford.
