Obituary

Daniel J. McDevitt
June 8, 1950 - July 19, 2023

Daniel James McDevitt, retired Deputy Chief, Boston Fire Department, Special Operations, a longtime resident of South Boston, formerly of Hyde Park, went to his heavenly home on July 19th, 2023, surrounded by his dearest family, friends, and colleagues after a courageous battle with cancer.

Danny was a graduate of Boston Latin School; he served honorably in the Marine Corps and also completed a degree from UMASS Boston. He was proud to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather into a life of service with the Boston Fire Department (BFD). Joining the BFD in 1974, he served the City of Boston and his fellow firefighters for 40 years. Danny's biggest accomplishment and greatest source of love and joy was the beautiful family he raised with Maureen; his kind heart, integrity, and selfless spirit will live on through his four children, who loved him dearly.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Maureen, as well as his four children, Deanna (BFD) and her husband Tommy Carroll (BFD) of Milton; Daniel (BFD) and his wife Raquel of Norwell; Thomas and his wife Alyson of Hingham; and Pamela (BPD) and her fiancé Ryan of Boston. Loving "Papa" to Tommy, Sophie, Anna, Eleanor, and Jack. Adored Uncle to Cole Attardo. He is also survived by his brother Jack McDevitt of Arizona and sister Marilyn McDevitt and her husband Rick Handman of Canton. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.

Danny is preceded in death by his mother, Mildred, and his father, BFD Captain John McDevitt.
