Theresa Thompson, affectionately known as “Ma” or “Nana”, was born to the late Harry Thompson and Octavia (Gaines) Thompson on February 11, 1947 in Mobile, AL in the town of Prichard. She was one of 13 children. She departed this earthly life on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.
She graduated from Blount High School and she often talked about being a Majorette and attending the prom all four years of high school. She attended nursing school in 1967 and graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse before moving to Boston, MA and starting her family. She was a dedicated mother to six children and worked full-time at Benjamin Healthcare for over 30 years before retiring in 1997. She also studied with the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
In 1986, Theresa moved her family to Brockton, MA, which became her permanent residence. For a few years she moved to Plymouth, MA, where she formed a tight circle of friends and family at Algonquin Heights before returning to Brockton. She eventually purchased her home on Prospect Street which she shared with her children and many others who were in need. She owned and operated Tee’s Daycare from 1999 to 2015. Her daycare was her biggest accomplishment and gave her pure joy. The only complaint she ever received as a caregiver was that the children she cared for would not eat their parent’s cooking because they wanted “Nana’s cooking.”
Theresa loved to cook elaborate meals for family gatherings, decorate for weddings and make flower arrangements and centerpieces for people. She especially loved to decorate her home when entertaining and she was great at it!
Theresa was always available to anyone in need. She always had a hot meal on the stove any time of the day for anyone who needed a meal and would always greet anyone with her warm, beautiful smile.
Theresa loved all of her children and grandchildren, provided for them and always enjoyed whenever they all gathered at her home to listen to music, tell jokes, talk and eat. She was especially close to her grandson Trevon and loved hearing jokes with her grandson Cerrone.
Theresa leaves to cherish her precious memories, her sisters: Earlene Rogers, Alice Thompson, Jacquline Simpson, Jennifer Haynes, and her brother George (Ingrid) Thompson; her six children: Tyesha Thompson, Tyrone Thompson, Jr., Tomeka (Jerry) Thompson, Terrance (Leah) Whitfield, Sr., Theresa “Michelle” Noel and Antione Noel; her fifteen grandchildren: Tyisha Slayton, Rakeem Owem, Sr., Reanna Owen, Taizia Thompson, Tyrone Thompson, Jr., Cerrone Crayton, Darrien Whitfield, Tyriece Thompson, Tyrell Williams, Terrance Whitfield, Jr., Tyshawn Thompson, Trevon Thompson, Jerry Williams, Jr., Thalia Whitfield and Tiara Theresa Michelle Noel; and her eight great-grandchildren: Jaquan Jr., Jalayah, Josiah, Charlie, Gavin, Tayanna Octavia, Rakeem Jr., and Londyn. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends and family.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to visit with Theresa’s family on Friday, July 21, 2023, from 3:00 to 7:00 pm, with a funeral service beginning at 6:00 pm, in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton.
