Laura M. (Burgo) Silva, 87, of New Bedford died July 19, 2023 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness surrounded by her family.
She was the wife of the late Lawrence A. Silva.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Leopold and Rose J. (Rodrigues) Burgo, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
She was formerly employed by Eastern Sportswear and Cameo Curtains and later was a beautician at Garland Salon.
Laura loved the Lord Jesus and her church family. She was a very active life-long member of the International Church of the Nazarene where she served on the board and taught Sunday School for many years.
She was a great loving mother with her children and shared a special caring relationship with all her nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her son, Bruce F. Burgo and his wife Joycelyn of Kansas City, MO; a daughter, Kim A. Silva and her partner of many years Erik Cardoza of New Bedford; several foster children over the years; a sister, Mary Smith of New Bedford; 4 grandchildren, Rae'Ana, Brianna, Trinity and Bruce, II; 3 great-grandchildren, Marcel, Zhaylee and Zhayden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Kilda Filkins, Leoplod Burgo, Arthur Burgo, John Burgo, Alfred Burgo, Joseph Burgo, Isabel Burgo, Manuel Burgo, Beldwin Burgo and Anna Silva.
Her visiting hours will be held on Friday, July 21st from 4-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 22nd at 9 AM in the International Church of the Nazarene, 286 Pleasant St. St. New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery.
