SOUTH HADLEY – Michael J. Dubuc, 81, of South Hadley, was Called Safely Home on Monday, July 17, 2023. He entered into Eternal Life unexpectedly at Holyoke Medical Center in Holyoke and joined his beloved wife, Carole, and his loving son, David. He was born in Holyoke on February 4, 1942, a beloved son of the late Valmore “Red” Dubuc and Grave (Kelliher) Dubuc. He was raised in South Hadley, graduated from South Hadley High School and had lived in South Hadley his entire life. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Coast Guard, received the Antarctic Service Medal and attained the rank of Radarman Petty Officer Second Class. He was employed as a Police Officer with the South Hadley Police Department when he took advantage of the GI Bill and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Western New England College. After receiving his degree, he became a Probation Officer at the Northampton District Court for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and retired as Assistant Chief in 1997. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fairview Council 4044 in Chicopee where he was a longtime Bingo volunteer working in the kitchen with his son, David by his side. He was also member of the Sons of Erin in Westfield, the Disabled American Veterans and was a former member of the Redcliffe Canoe Club in South Hadley. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and soul mate, Carole V. (Majka) Dubuc on November 23, 2022. They were married on May 30, 1968 at Saint Patrick Church in South Hadley and were blessed with over 54 years of happiness together. He leaves his loving and devoted sister-in-law, Jane Golob of South Hadley; his two cherished nieces, Pamela Pershing of Port Charlotte, FL and Debra Whalen of Chalfont, PA; his cherished nephew, Michael Pershing and his wife, Tammy, of Port Charlotte, FL; and his many dear extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his loving son, David Michael Dubuc who was Called Home on June 10, 2016; and his dear sister, Beverly Pershing. His family will receive friends on Monday, July 24, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a Prayer Service at 11 a.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The funeral home parking lot is located in the rear. His Burial with United States Coast Guard Military Honors will follow the Mass at Saint Rose Cemetery, 226 Granby Road (Route 202), South Hadley, MA 01075.
