Virgilio H. “Mero” Hernandez
September 4, 1936 – July 17, 2023
Our dear father, Virgil, has passed into eternal life.
Virgil served our country proudly in the Navy, continuing to serve our country in the Civil Service. Throughout his career, he and his wife Hilda traveled and lived in many places throughout the world. He loved to live life to its fullest, enjoying the simple pleasures. He loved ballroom dancing and never passed an opportunity to cut a rug. He was a man of great faith and belonged to the Rosary guild in the Maryland area. But his greatest joy was football. Wherever he lived, he was the best fan of that home team. All who met him were taken by his kind, sweet temperament and a laugh that lifted spirits.
He is preceded in death by Hilda, his high school sweetheart and wife of 60 years, and by his parents Isidro and Angelina Hernandez. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Cynthia Fogelman (Michael), Jose Virgilio Hernandez Jr. (Lisa), and Sandra Strickland (Stan). Grandchildren: Stanley, John, Angel (Valerie) and Bradley Strickland; and Isabella, Gabrielle, and Joey Hernandez. Siblings: Ciro Hernandez and Leticia Molina (Juan). Memorial services will be held at a later date. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry and Londonderry are assisting the family with arrangements.
Good night sweet prince.
My heart’s sorrow is deeply felt.
Thy lovely laugh, thy infectious joy all are taken with thee.
Only love remains
To hold us and keep us until we meet again.
Good night sweet prince, good night.
In heaven’s sweet embrace
Shall we behold thee again.
