Obituary

NORTH BALDWIN- Melissa Marie (Sanborn) Walker, age 54, of Baldwin passed through the gates of Heaven on July 16, 2023, after a long hard-fought battle with diabetes and dialysis.

Missy, or "Lissa" as she was known to those closest to her, was born in Westbrook, ME on March 22, 1969, to Dennis L Sanborn, Jr., and Jean (Mckenney) Sanborn Moore. She was the first-born grandchild of the late Norman and Pearl McKenney, with whom she shared an incredibly special relationship. Her paternal grandparents are the late Dennis L. Sanborn Sr., and Alice "Vera" (DeRenne) Sanborn in which she shared a love of music that lasted all through her life.

Lissa attended Baldwin Consolidated School and graduated from Sacopee Valley High School, in 1987.

She spent her summers working at Camp Winaco, in Sebago, with Norman & Pearl, and other family members, where they made fond memories still talked about today. She could often be found at Grammy Vera's, with Uncle Victor and her cousins, all sharing the love of music. She studied early childhood education at the University of Maine, Farmington. While there, she was a DJ for the college radio station, playing classic rock.

Her life's path changed direction for her in 1990, with the birth of her son, Jacob. In 1995 she married Terry Walker, and together they had a son, Justin born in 1996. Growing up she enjoyed taking dance lessons, at Wanda Plummer's Dance School, and later as an adult she took clogging lessons with her son, Justin, at the same school. In 2019 the apple of her eye; granddaughter Olivia, was born. Olivia's smile brought her Mimi through many tough days.

Missy was an avid reader, the Harry Potter series being a favorite that she read numerous times. She also enjoyed attending the Fryeburg Fair every year, where she could talk with everyone she knew and those she did not. You see, Missy was a social butterfly who never met a stranger, nor had an unkind word towards anyone.

Before her decline in health, she held various jobs; among her favorites was working for Ed & Chris at The Whistle Stop and working for the USPS. Both jobs provided great avenues for her friendly, kindhearted personality.

In addition to her parents and both sets of grandparents, she was predeceased by a brother, Michael.

She is survived by her partner, Adam Easler; her sons Jacob Sanborn and his wife Cassidy, and Justin Walker; her brothers Matthew Sanborn and his wife Amanda, and Mitchell Sanborn; granddaughter Olivia, all of Baldwin, her stepfather, William Moore of Fryeburg, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A service of remembrance will be on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 10 am at the Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple Street, Cornish, ME. Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Cornish.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may sent to the Baldwin Community Auxiliary, P.O. Box 121,

East Baldwin, ME, 04024, an organization in which she was a past member.
