Charlotte A. Nichols Heiden, 87, of Anderson died at her home July 14, 2023
Charlotte was born on May 24, 1936 in Mooreland, Henry County, Indiana at the home of her maternal grandparents, the Rev. and Mar. L.L. Paul.
She attended Central Avenue Grade School and Junior High School. She graduated from Anderson High School in 1954.
Charlotte spent a year at Manchester College, before she enrolled in Holy Cross School of Nursing located in South Bend, Indiana. She graduated with a degree in nursing in 1958.
On April 12, 1959, she married Robert L. Heiden, son of Arthur and Pharaba Heiden. Bob passed away on November 21, 1986.
Charlotte worked at Saint John's Hospital part time while raising their family of four children.
When their oldest daughter, Jyll, became a member of the Anderson High School Band, Charlotte and her husband Bob became band parents. Charlotte and Bob spent their summers running the AHS Band Dunk tank at the free fair. They also spent their summers at band camp and went on many band trips.
In the fall of 1973, Charlotte became a school nurse for the Anderson Community Schools. She worked in the elementary schools until January of 1986 when she became the nurse at Anderson High School. Charlotte spent her summers working at Saint John's Hospital. She retired from Anderson Community Schools and Saint John's Hospital in 2002.
Charlotte is a member of Anderson First Baptist Church. She has served on the Board of Missions, Board of Christian Education and the Kitchen Committee. She is also a member of the Daleville Chapter # 568 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Charlotte served on the Madison County Chapter of the Red Cross Board and was an instructor for Red Cross.
She is survived by her children, Jyll (John) Stuart, Joan Heiden, Susan (Greg) Allgood and John Heiden; eight grandchildren, Alex (Brandon) Walters, Katie Allgood, David Allgood, Michael Allgood, Beka Allgood, Amanda Allgood, Miranda Allgood and Nathan Allgood; three great-grandchildren, Lizzie Walters, Ben Walters and John Walters.
She was preceded in death by her spouse, Robert L. Heiden; parents, Lavere and Elsie Nichols; and her grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. LL Paul.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to First Baptist Church.
