Worcester – Roland W. Marengo, 79, of Worcester, passed away peacefully in his home with his two daughters by his side on Thursday, July 13, 2023 after a short battle with cancer.
Roland is survived by his two daughters that he loved dearly, Kimberly Duval of Oxford and Jill Arrell and her husband, Jason of Cherry Valley; three grandchildren, Haley Banfill, Benjamin Arrell and Alexander Duval, many cousins including, Frances Bjorndal of Worcester.
Rollie was born in Worcester, son of the late Hazel (Charbonneau) Marengo and is predeceased by two brothers, James and Roger Marengo and a sister, Kathleen Cote.
Mr. Marengo grew up in Worcester and graduated from the former Worcester Boy’s Trade High School. He worked his career as a master electrician working for various companies, but spent the majority of his career working at the Slater Building in Downtown Worcester.
While attending Worcester Boy’s Trade Rollie was a standout athlete and was featured in articles on numerous occasions in the Worcester Telegram. Throughout most of his life he played golf and was proud to say that he was able to have 3 “Hole in Ones”. He enjoyed athletics, but he was truly the happiest when he was playing cards with family and friends, watching old western movies, attending and cheering on his grandson’s basketball games or just spending time with his children, grandchildren and cousins including Fran.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday; July 20, 2023 in the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. Worcester. Entombment will follow in Notre dame Mausoleum, Worcester. Calling hours will be held from 10 to 12 prior to the funeral service. Memorial contributions in memory of Roland may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute 450 Brookline Avenue SW120 Boston, MA 02215.
