RAYMOND - Norman “Norm” Warren Dyer, Jr., age 64, passed away on July 12, 2023, at his
home surrounded by his loving wife and children, after a courageous battle fighting
glioblastoma.
He was born in Portland, Maine on May 15, 1959, a son of Norman and Dorothy Dyer. After
graduating from Bonny Eagle High School, Norm married his high school sweetheart - Wanda
Buckley. He worked at S&D Manufacturing, from 1981 until 1990 when the plant closed. He then
spent 32 years loyally working at Dielectric Communications. Over his years of service at
Dielectric he not only learned all the skills necessary for his many positions, he also helped
teach those skills to others. Norm worked faithfully until he was diagnosed in early 2022.
Norm enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery, bird watching, boating, kayaking, x-county skiing,
relaxing at his camp in New Portland, and most importantly spending time with his beloved
family. He was a registered Maine Guide and outdoor enthusiast. Scouting was a large part of
his life and he shared that love with his family and community. He was Scoutmaster of Troop
800 in Raymond for several years, and actively involved in other leadership and volunteer roles
for decades.
He is predeceased by his mother - Dorothy Dyer who passed away in 2020.
Norm is survived by his father Norman Dyer Sr.; his beloved wife - Wanda (Buckley) Dyer; his
sister Carol Farrow and her husband Bill; his brother Wayne Dyer; and his sister Amy Albert and
her husband David; his children - Nathaniel Dyer and his wife Emily of Westbrook, Eric Dyer and
his wife Sarah of Readfield, Susie Salazar and her husband Ryan of Raymond, and Sarah Dyer
and her husband Brian Armstrong of Raymond; and his nine grandchildren - Eva, Warren,
Maevelyn, Callie, Cash, Marigny, Maxwell, Reilly, and Samuel.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday July 22 at 3PM at the Poitras Neal & York Funeral
Home, 71 Maple St, Cornish. Following the service, visitation will be held until 5 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a local land trust or conservation
organization.
