SPRINGFIELD - Virginia D. “Ginger” Chmura, 65, a longtime resident of Springfield and South Hadley, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, July 8, 2023. She passed into Eternal Life at Chestnut Hill of East Longmeadow surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on December 13, 1957, a beloved daughter of Joan M. (Strobelberger) Chmura of Springfield and the late Theodore S. Chmura, Jr. who was Called Home on April 16, 2020. She graduated from the High School of Commerce and later attended Springfield Technical Community College for legal studies. She was a longtime Data Entry Operator for the former Electrolux Company in downtown Springfield and later a receptionist for the Springfield Quadrangle Museums. Ginger suffered from renal disease as a teenager and received her first kidney transplant from a sister in 1977. Twenty years later, she received a second kidney transplant from another sister and following her transplants, Ginger was blessed with many healthy, happy years. During her leisure time, Ginger enjoyed shopping, traveling, many cruises, vacations at the seashores of Maine and Cape Cod, and summers in the Berkshires. Ginger was a gracious and kind lady who always helped others in need. As the oldest of six children, she was an outstanding big sister. Besides her beloved mother, she leaves her loving husband, Thomas Wilk of South Hadley. She leaves her five loving siblings, Kathleen A. Chmura-Fournier and her husband, Roger Fournier, of Springfield, Diane M. Miner and her husband, Raymond Miner, of Ludlow, Carol A. Cote of West Springfield, Theodore S. Chmura III and his wife, Rachel, of Ludlow and Joanne M. Flescher and her husband, David, of Feeding Hills; her cherished nieces and nephew, Raven A. Fournier and her wife, Jillian, Brendan G. Fournier, Julie E. Chmura and Catherine A. Chmura; and her many dear friends and extended family members. Ginger loved animals, especially cats, including her long-time feline companion, Tiggy.
