Cornell K. Wichers, age 88 of Prosser, entered into rest on July 12, 1923 at Prosser Memorial Hospital. He was born in Prairie View, Kansas on August 23, 1934 to Henry and Jennie Wichers and was the youngest of 9 children. Cornell and Patricia Evans were married on August 26, 1967 in Mt. Lake Terrace, WA.
Cornell grew up in the Yakima Valley but also lived in Billingham, Centralia, Lynnwood and Arlington. He moved back to the valley and settled in Prosser in 1998.
Cornell served in the US Army from 1957 through 1959. He was an expert upholsterer working on everything from boats and cars to household furniture. He was a Diesel Mechanic for the Lakewood School District, retiring in 1998. After moving to Prosser, he worked as a handyman and Mobile Home Park Manager until fully retiring in 2017.
Cornell enjoyed car racing, camping and fixing things for others. He was an avid Gonzaga Basketball fan. He was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Prosser.
Cornell is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia of Prosser; son Rick Holt (Dawnell) of
Arlington, WA; daughter, Rhonda Jager (Carl) of Bellingham, WA and son Greg Wichers (Dorie) of Arkansas (from a previous marriage); daughter, Judi Benson (Dean) of Prosser; son, James Holt (Vicki) of Prosser; and daughter, Renee Moore (Jess) of Everett, WA. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 14 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Prosser Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM at the Presbyterian Church followed by burial at the Prosser Cemetery. Following the services, there will be a reception of the Covenant Presbyterian Church.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lane, the staff at Sun Terrace and the staff at Prosser Hospital for the compassionate help and care for Cornell at the end of his life.
