Salem
Patricia Ann (Duffy) Weil passed peacefully on Friday, July 7, 2023 in Beverly, MA surrounded by her daughters, sister and nieces.
Patricia Ann Duffy was born on October 21, 1937 to Daniel and Eleanor Duffy in Hazelton, PA. The eldest of five, she grew up in PA, NY and NJ before graduating Cathedral H.S. in Trenton, NJ in 1955. That same fall she enteredthe Religious Sisters of Mercy Convent. There she taught 4th and 5thgrades for several years. She left the Convent before taking her final vows. Despite this, she remained a lifelong devoted Catholic, attending Mass weekly and loved lifting her voice in song.
She attended Katherine Gibbs School and quickly become the private secretary to Roger Williams in New York City. After several years in New York, she met and married George W. Weil, Jr. in 1970. Pat and George welcomed Laura, followed by Lenore the next year. The girls joined George’s children Gail and Billy in their home in Salem, MA.
After many happy years as a stay-at-home mother, she reentered the workforce, becoming the secretary of St. Joseph’s School in Salem. The students and faculty became her second family. Her office door was always open and to her kids, she was a surrogate mother, settler of disputes, an ear to listen, shoulder to cry on, and expert fixer of scrapes, scratches and bruises. Her kindness and love were remembered by students, parents, and teachers long after her retirement from St. Joseph’s.
Pat loved travelling the country with George and the kids – going as far north as Canada and as far south as Florida. She even made it across the pond to her family’s native Ireland. But her favorite spot was Westerly, RI, where she spent summers making some of her happiest memories while vacationing with her sisters and their families. She made a mean mac-n-cheese and helped care and cook for dozens.
In her later years, she cherished spending time with her dog, Jane Russell, her grandchildren, children and her beloved husband George. Pat was always quick with a smile, a laugh, and loved a good shopping trip with her girls. Her compassion knew no bounds; she once put out ice water for the neighborhood squirrels and chipmunks during the hottest days of an Atlanta summer.
She is survived by her adoring husband George W. Weil, Jr., children Gail (Weil) Palombo, William W. Weil III, Laura (Weil) Edwards and Lenore (Weil) Gambale; her sister Dana (Duffy) Morgan and brother Hugh Duffy. She was a loving aunt to over a dozen nieces and nephews and Godmother to two; Grandmother to five: Jared Palombo, Elsa Gambale, Kyle Gambale, June Gambale and Mara Gambale.
Even after her passing, her generosity of spirit and devotion to others continues on. Pat made the selfless and uncommon decision to donate her body to Tufts Medical School. This way she is able to
continue her life of service and will be a source of learning and knowledge for many years to come.
A memorial Mass will be held at Ste. Anne’s Parish, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem on Saturday July 22, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. We will gather to mourn her passing and celebrate her life. A luncheon will follow. For guestbook and to send a condolence to her family please visit www.LevesqueFunerals.com
