Obituary


Daniel O'Neill of Medford, by way of Ballyduff Upper, Co Waterford, Ireland, passed away peacefully July 11, 2023. He was the beloved husband of 52 years of the late Mary A. "Maura" (Lydon) O'Neill. Together they lived in Medford for over forty years, always traveling back-and-forth to Ireland to visit with family. Born in Ballyduff, County Waterford, Ireland he was one of four children of the late Michael and Katherine (Hallahan) O'Neill.

Devoted father of Daniel J. O'Neill and his wife Kathleen of Medford, and Jennifer Reale and her husband Richard Jr. of Newton. Loving grandfather of Evan O'Neill, Coleman O'Neill, Richard Reale III, and Penelope Reale. Cherished brother of Bridie O'Brien and her husband Dan of Ballysaggart, Ireland, Michael O'Neill and his wife Angela of Clashmore, Ireland, and the late Robert O'Neill. Further survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Dan immigrated to the United States in 1960. He always kept in touch with his family and friends, especially weekly calls to his siblings. Prior to his retirement, Dan worked for many years as Manager and Supervisor with Domino Sugar. He was a proud Massachusetts United States Army National Guard Veteran and honorably served from 1964 to 1970. Growing up, Dan played under 14 and minor hurling with Ballyduff. Dan was also an active member and outstanding goalie for the Waterford, Wexford, Cork Hurling Clubs from 1971 to 1988. During this time he brought them to many championships around the United States and always the fierce competitor this may have included playing with a broken finger or two. Dan passed his love of sports to his children and grandchildren. He was always present and the number 1 fan at their sporting events and Irish Dance competitions. He will be greatly missed by his family and those he loved.

Funeral from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD, Friday, July 21st, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High St., Medford, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Funeral Home will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment services will be private. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Dan's memory to the Irish Cultural Center, 200 New Boston Dr., Canton, MA 02021 or www.irishculture.org.
