Paul Demis, 94, of Framingham died peacefully, Monday, July 10th at home surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his wife of 68 years, Mabel (Bitzas) Demis; a son, Chris Demis and his wife, Susanne of Watertown; a daughter, Catherine “Tina” Gill of Wilmington, NC; four grandchildren, Briella and Christian Demis, and Matthew and Harrison Gill; two step grandchildren, Hunter and Avery Jackson Gill; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Evropi, Hrisoula, Vergho.
He was born in Longos, North Epirus, Greece; the son of Christos and Vasaliki (Harjayalos) Demis. At the age of fourteen, Paul left his village to go to Athens where he began his adventurous journey as a merchant marine traveling the world. This gave him a zest for travel, world history and real estate. He eventually landed in Worcester, Massachusetts where he married his young, beautiful bride, Mabel. They went on together to open successful pizza restaurants until he retired from the famous, “Mass House of Pizza.” He then fully immersed himself in his real estate ventures. Paul enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He loved traveling to Greece frequently to visit family. He loved entertaining friends and family with his extremely dry humor and infectious smile.
Paul was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the Order of AHEPA.
His funeral is Monday, July 17th with a service at 10:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, July 16th from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
