Mrs. Anita (Muzzarelli) Turchi, a longtime resident of Medford and beloved wife of the late John Turchi, passed away at her home on Sunday evening, July 9, 2023. She was surrounded by her family. She was 97 years old.
Born in Serrazone, Italy, she was the beloved daughter of the late Silvio and Maria (Cioni) Muzzarelli. Anita was a retired Nurse Assistant at the former Magoun Manor Nursing Home, for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, cooking for her family, sewing, crocheting, ironing, and needlepoint, traveling, and playing the slot machines, going for car rides with her son, John to Revere Beach for coffee and a lemon doughnut, and holiday gatherings at her home was her greatest treasure. Also, her strong devotion of going to daily Mass, her love for God and the Blessed Mother, and our Mom was never without her rosary in one hand and a neatly folded handkerchief in the other hand.
Anita is survived by her loving children: Giordana and her husband Joseph Benassi of Tewksbury, Sandra Drier Turchi of Reading, Nora Turchi of Waltham, John A. Turchi of Medford, Gloria Turchi and her husband Olaf Hoerschelmann of California, Marisa and her husband Carmine Luongo of New Hampshire, Remo and his wife Sharon Turchi of Wakefield, Lisa and her husband Michael Brogan of North Reading and Nadia and her husband Kevin Purifory of Medford, siblings Armando, Franco, and Imile Muzzarelli, all of Italy, 26 grandchildren (4 deceased), 8 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews in France and Italy.
Above all, she was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all. Her adult children kindly request a rosary be said in memory of the poor souls in Purgatory. It should be noted that Anita passed away on Domenica (Sunday) her favorite day of the week and what a blessing for her.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend.
Visiting hours will be held at the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Friday, July 14, 2023, from 4 to 7 PM. Interment will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. In lieu of flowers, donations in Anita's memory may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, MA 02155.
