February 27, 1961- July 3, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Susan on Monday, July 3 peacefully at home in Braintree with her family.
She was one of 10 children born to the late Richard J. and Mary E. (Mazzeo). She was born in South Boston but raised in the Savin Hill neighborhood of Dorchester then before moving to Braintree 14 years ago.
She was the proud mother of Rachel (Devin) Masse and her favorite son-in-law Bryan Masse. Her two most favorite people in the entire world were her two grandchildren, Ashley Paige Masse and Sean Bryan Masse.
Brother of Michael and his wife Patti of Quincy, sister-in-law Dianne (Driscoll) of Weymouth, sister Marie (Burton) and her husband George of South Boston, sister Sheila of Weymouth, brother Brian of Pembroke; predeceased by five brothers Richard Jr. (Dickie), John (Chucka), George, Edward (Teddy), and Francis (Franny) all from South Boston and Dorchester.
She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a large circle of many caring friends.
Susan’s journey started in April 2009, she wasn’t feeling well but because she was not one to go to the doctor she was basically forced by her daughter and sister. At first, they sent her home but a week later refusing to accept that it was nothing they went back to hospital. That is where it was discovered that there was a tumor so large that it perforated her bowels. The specialist told her that she was going to have to go in for emergency surgery. Her response was “I don’t really feel like it right now, just tell my daughter all the info and we will come back, I promise”. They explained that unfortunately that wasn’t an option.
Thankfully after many hours of surgery they were able to remove the entire tumor. She had many complications over the years but fought hard for 14 years. During that time, she enjoyed family vacations to Washington DC and Florida. But she found the most joy attending sporting and school events for her grandchildren and making sure her daily lottery numbers were in. Recently the cancer returned, and her little body could no longer fight.
Friends and family are invited to a funeral mass on Friday, August 4, 2023 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish (Sacred Heart Church) 72 Washington Street, Weymouth, MA.
