Obituary

Catherine A. 'Katie' Doyle, a long time resident of Dracut, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 11, 1942, in Lowell, Massachusetts, to the late Henry L. McGrath and the late Dorothy M. (Bell) McGrath.

Katie was raised in the Centralville section of Lowell where she attended local schools and graduated from Lowell High School in 1960. During her youth, she worked at Cherry and Webb in Downtown Lowell as well as Merrimack Optical in Pelham, NH.  She volunteered her time working at the Town of Dracut voting polls and walked for miles going door to door doing the town census back in the 1970’s.
For 23 years, Katie served as a bank teller at the Lowell 5 Cent Savings bank where she was loved and respected by her colleagues.  She took pride in teaching her children and their friends the value of a dollar, how to balance a checkbook and independently manage their finances.  She retired from the bank in 2004.

Katie was a loving, single mom who raised her girls to be strong, independent women.  She taught them to always look for the good and be the good.  She was known by her family and friends as being a trusted confidant who listened without judgment and dolled out the best advice. Katie cherished every minute she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Her favorite place on earth was the beach in North Hampton, NH where she took her children and grandchildren for a week each summer.   She loved sitting with a hot cup of coffee at sunrise and said that the beach was the cure for everything.

She is survived by her loving children: Beth Ellen Reid and her husband Stephen of Ayer, and Stacey Ann Geary and her husband Stephan Geary of Lowell. Additionally, she leaves behind five grandchildren: Michael Robert Reid, Craig Patrick Reid, Catherine Cassidy and her husband Patrick, Jonathan Geary, and Matthew Geary. She also leaves her sweet and silly great-grandchildren, James and Jessica Cassidy who always kept Nana Kate smiling and laughing.
Katie also leaves behind many dear family and friends.

In accordance with Katie’s wishes, the services will be private.  Donations may be made in her memory to Lucy’s Love Bus at lucyslovebus.org
